A flor, da espécie Cattleya warneri, foi localizada no alto de um jequitibá centenário de, aproximadamente, 30 metros de altura. Monitores do Monast fizeram a descoberta durante um monitoramento de rotina realizado com drone.
A espécie da orquídea está criticamente em perigo de extinção no Espírito Santo, segundo Decreto Estadual nº 5.238-R, de 25/11/2022. O mesmo decreto incluiu o jequitibá e garante uma maior proteção às espécies. Para a árvore ser cortada, por exemplo, é preciso atender a uma série de pré-requisitos.
“A orquídea tem a mesma classificação da onça pintada, por exemplo, e está a um passo de não ser mais encontrada na natureza. Logo, é um achado importante para o Estado, não só para a Unidade de Conservação, mas para a preservação do Meio Ambiente”, disse o gestor do Monast, Guilherme Carneiro.
Ações estratégicas estão sendo traçadas pelo Monast e o Instituto Estadual de Meio Ambiente e Recursos Hídricos (Iema), com o objetivo da conservação e reprodução da espécie. “Sabendo onde a planta se encontra, intensificaremos o monitoramento em relação a ela. É provável que encontremos outros exemplares dentro da Unidade de Conservação”, acrescentou Carneiro.
No jequitibá, foram encontradas cinco espécies de plantas, de diferentes famílias botânicas: orquídea (1), bromélia (2), araceae (1) e cacto (1). Essas plantas são conhecidas como epífitas, que utilizam de outras plantas como suporte físico, além de animais, como o bem-te-vi e o cupim, e outras aves que fugiram com a presença do drone.
